Two Years Since Breonna Taylor

Two Years Since Breonna Taylor

It has been two years since Breonna Taylor was killed by LMPD Officers. The actions of LMPD in procuring the warrant, planning for the raid and executing the raid were reckless. The cover-ups that followed were obvious. The actions of the Kentucky Attorney General were a cowardly sell-out with a politically based agenda.

There has been no justice for Breonna to date. Breonna’s name is said less and less these days. We must pray for and demand action. We must continue to stand behind Breonna’s family.

Breonna’s death, along with that of George Floyd and Ahmaud Arbery, sparked a movement. Thousands flooded the streets in protest. Four states (Florida, Oregon, Connecticut, and Virginia) have banned no-knock warrants entirely. At least 34 states now restrict the use of no-knock warrants in various ways. Federally, the U.S. Department of Justice has limited the use of no-knock warrants as well. We have seen criminal accountability for George Floyd and Ahmaud Arbery. Footage told the story and jurors and Minnesota and Georgia demonstrated their willingness and courage to do what is right, even if the criminal was wearing a badge. We have seen several states enact comprehensive police reform and numerous officers indicted nationwide for excessive force.

Meanwhile, Louisville continues to protect bad cops.

Tamika Palmer is a public champion for justice. She continues to travel the country to stand with other families who have lost a loved one due to reckless police conduct. And she continues to be a pioneer in the everlasting fight for racial equality and police accountability. But behind closed doors, Tamika and her family also continue to shed so many tears. They don’t understand why it’s been two years without justice. It is a test of faith when so much time goes by and nothing happens.

Please continue to say Breonna’s name. Please fight harder now than ever in demanding justice. Please show your support for Breonna’s family.
